Ecological Farming Certificate
We offer an Ecological Farming Certificate where you will have the opportunity to create one of the following.
- Regenerative Farm Design For a Commercial Farming Operation
- Freshwater Farm Plan to Demonstrate Sustainable Management
- Regenerative Business Strategy and Environmental Report with Carbon Budgeting
We are Currently in the Process of NZQA Accreditation of this Course and we Anticipate Launch of Our First Cohort in July 2024
Welcome to the Regenerative Changemaker Community, where we're dedicated to designing ecological farming systems that combat the decline in biodiversity, soil health and water quality caused by agricultural expansion. Our mission is to support a network of people identifying as “regenerative changemakers” that are seeking to adopt and apply regenerative design to living prosperous and fulfilling lives in harmony with healthy natural systems. We achieve this by advancing regenerative design education and research and its application to creating healthy and resilient farming systems, to support the transition of society towards a more sustainable future.
Join us to craft functional and profitable farming systems that restore ecological health and sustainably shape our rural economies.
Our Ecological Farming Certificate offers specialized pathways tailored to your goals. Core modules cover regenerative design principles, topography, climate adaptation, water and soil health, biodiversity, market and site analysis. You'll choose a specialty, such as Permaculture Garden, Holistic Silvopasture, or Aquaculture, and an outcome, like designing a lifestyle farm or creating a freshwater farm plan.
Upon completion, you'll receive a Permaculture Design Certificate and a functional plan for your ecological farming system.
Individual module enrollment is an option, but the certificate requires completion of all core modules and one specialty module and one outcome module.
Depending on the outcome you select you will be enrolled in a cohort of participants that are also investigating the application of regenerative design to that outcome. You will then work collaboratively through a series of design tasks that lead to completing your selected outcome.

Core Modules
The following core modules are completed by all participants and explore the fundamentals of the philosophy and application of regenerative design:
Specialty Modules
The following specialty modules explore specific application of regenerative design into different farming or business context.
When completing a course you select one of these that best suits your design goals.
However, you also have the option in enrolling in additional specialty modules if you would like to explore additional topics.

Outcome Modules
The focus of the Regenerative Changemaker Certificate course is to create an outcome that meets your goals for applying regenerative design.
You can select one of the following outcome modules to apply the understanding of regenerative design you will develop through the course to.
Additional outcome modules can also be selected to create a more well-rounded regenerative enterprise development strategy. But this option is only available to those that have successfully completed a course and been awarded an Ecological Farming Certificate.

Commercial Regenerative Farm
|
This course focuses on creating regenerative farming systems by applying the principles of regenerative design. It aims to restore degraded farmland while sustaining a land-based income for landowners. The course covers topics such as soil health improvement, ecosystem services enhancement, water quality improvement, carbon sequestration, and farmer and livestock wellbeing. |
Freshwater Farm Plan
In this course, participants delve into the intricacies of developing a freshwater plan, gaining a comprehensive understanding of responsible water resource management, conservation practices, and environmental sustainability within the context of farming. The discussions within the module encompass strategies for assessing water needs, ensuring water quality, and implementing effective conservation measures tailored to the unique requirements of farms. By analyzing successful freshwater plans, participants gain insights into their pivotal role in fostering sustainable farming practices. Throughout the course, the focus is on equipping learners with the knowledge and tools needed to navigate the complex relationship between agriculture and freshwater resources, promoting an environmentally conscious approach to water usage in farming systems.
Regenerative Business Strategy and Reporting
This comprehensive course empowers aspiring entrepreneurs to build sustainable businesses rooted in regenerative principles while leveraging New Zealand's unique context. It offers a detailed roadmap, centering on crafting targeted marketing strategies, understanding customer needs, and delivering value for profitability and sustainability. Participants embark on a journey, starting with formulating robust business models, progressing to detailed plans, and culminating in persuasive pitch decks for stakeholders or investors. Emphasizing regenerative design principles, it re-examines flawed philosophies for a more sustainable future, aligning with natural ecosystems' interconnected diversity.
Moreover, the course delves into environmental reporting frameworks within New Zealand's context, focusing on carbon positivity. It explores the country's commitment to carbon neutrality through initiatives like the Zero Carbon Act and the NZ Emissions Trading Scheme.
